Biogas in Poland – actual condition and perspective of development

In this paper we introduce condition of biogas production in Poland and perspective of production development. We will present natural gas connections and gas station network in Poland. Moreover, we want to focus on possibilities of development biogas supplying for buses in urban transport.

New market opportunities for the development of biogas creates an European Union Directive 2009/28/EC of 5 June 2009 on promotion of renewable energy scources, requiring Poland to achieve 15% share of RES in final energy consumption in 2020. The construction of a new quantity target in relation to „energy consumption“ offers the opportunities for biogas sector development, which can be direct or indirect used of all three end-markets of energy carriers, such as electricity, heat and transport.
Document prepared by the Government – “A Roadmap for renewable energy by 2020" - as a plan for implementation of the Directive, has to specify the individual shares of energy carriers from renewable energy sources and technology in achieving the national target and their participation in general, national energy use balance. In the current year is expected to introduce a new support system, including a new system of certification under the amendment to the Energy Law, which will determine the profitability ov biogas investment in coming years.
According to the Ebergy Regulatory Office, on the beginning of the 2020 in Poland there were 124 biogas plants, including:

􀆔 6 agricultural biogas plants;
􀆔 46 biogas plants that produce biogas from sewage treatment plants;
􀆔 72 biogas plants that produce biogas from landfills.

It is assumed that in 2020 Poland will produce 2 bln m3 of biogas.
From the biogas manufactured in Poland in 2008 there were received 251,8 GWh of electricity and 925 TJ of heat, however in 2010 the total power of the biogas plants was 70,777 MW.

Smart Metering – Investitionsstau jetzt abbauen

Will a Feed-in Tariff Law Promote the Development of Bioenergy in Germany without Compromising the “Greenness” of Biogas?
© Lexxion Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (7/2010)
In Germany the feed-in of biogas to the natural gas grid falls under the legal framework for the support of renewable energy in general. The laws and regulations of this framework, however, are scattered over a number of statutes and ordinances and the support system itself operates on a sector-specific basis. This article examines the potential of a biogas feed-in law to offer greater support and to increase the share of biogas in the natural gas market. What are the obstacles to the successful introduction and implementation of such a law?
